Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP)

Active Interest Rates & Flexible Terms

CEIP offers competitive rates with long repayment terms available. The financing can cover up to 100% of project costs.

Pay Through Your Property Tax Bill

This type of financing is attached to your property tax bill, so you make repayments to your municipality. Loan is transferable to new owners if agreed to.

Happier Alberta Home Owners

Energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades help decrease energy use/cost and increase comfort and efficiency in your home.

How CEIP works

Save sooner than you think

Alberta households spend almost $5,000 a year on energy cost. There are huge savings left on the table that can be utilized by adding energy improvement upgrades to your home like rooftop solar panels.

How Ceip helps Alberta Homeowners

The Clean Energy Improvement Program offers Albertans a new way to finance energy efficiency upgrades and renewable energy upgrades. The programs financing is tied to your regular property tax bill, so your payments are made directly to your municipality.

Town of Banff Solar Incentive Program

The Solar Incentive Program is a post-install rebate program, with the rebate amount based on the size of the solar system installed.

The town provides residential property owners with a rebate of $450/kilowatt (kW) of installed solar capacity, to a maximum of 20 kW ($9,000 maximum rebate).

Commercial properties are eligible for a rebate of $750/kilowatt (kW) of installed solar capacity, to a maximum of 20kW ($15,000 maximum rebate).

Town of Banff Deep Retrofit Program

Buildings represent a large share of the community's greenhouse gas emissions in Banff due to the cold climate and relatively old housing stock. The high energy consumption of many homes also results in high utility costs for homeowners.

The Deep Retrofit Program incentivizes energy savings independant of the type of upgrade. Instead of receiving a rebate on specific upgrades or purchases, the rebate amount depends only on the calculated annual energy savings of the project. This approach acknowledges that buildings throughout the community can be very different and will allow residents to choose the most cost-effective ways of improving their energy efficiency.

Town of Canmore Residential Solar Incentive

20 Incentives of $1,250 are available annually to support the installation of a residential rooftop solar system for Canmore homeowners.

This applys to residential homes:

• The solar system size must be a minimum of 3kW.
• The incentive is not retroactive for existing systems.
• Installation and electrical inspections must be completed by Dec. 15.

City of Medicine Hat - HAT Smart Solar Electric Incentive

The Solar Electric Incentive Program offers rebates to residential utility customers to purchase and install solar PV systems on their homes. One of the best solar spots in Canada is in Alberta. Medicine hat enjoys 330 days of sunshine each year.

Rebate values are based on the size (watts DC) of the installed system.
$0.20 per nominal Direct Current (DC) watt ($200 per kilowatt DC)
Maximum Rebate: $1,000

Eligibility Criteria:

• A system size review is required.
• Solar PV systems must be designed and installed by a qualified installer.
• All components must be new.

Speed up your Solar ROI IN ALberta

Beyond grants, rebates and financing programs, there are frameworks to help you get more from your solar system in ALberta

While not as direct as rebates and grants there are programs in place to help Albertans pay off their solar faster making the solar jump more affordable.

Alberta Micro-Generation Bill Credits

Under Alberta's micro-generation framework, homeowners with solar can reveive credits from their excess electricity sent to the grid.

Solar Club Export Rate programs

Make the most of your solar system before it's even installed by switching to a Pre-Solar Rate while you plan your solar journey. Once installed you can switch between HI/LO rates to maximize your savings and export credits.
